One really great feature of MyFitnessPal is the ability to add friends to the app. Now, you and your mom, sister or friend can help motivate each other by sharing your progress. It is a great way of keeping each other on track and reaching your fitness goals. MyFitnessPal also keeps track of your progress over time. You can add your weight to the tracking chart and view your progress over the course of weeks or months to help keep yourself motivated.

The 7 Minute Workout App

The 7 Minute Workout app is rather self-explanatory; it is exactly what it sounds like. With the 7 Minute Workout app, you will find yourself sweating and reaching your fitness goals in a minimal amount of time. No equipment is necessary for the workouts, and you can choose from a variety of workout routines that are timed to fit even the busiest of schedules.

Local technology that helps with fitness:

There are 2 really stand-out technologies from Saskatoon that help with fitness.  One is Biktrix and the other is Athlete Era.

  1. Biktrix is making electric bikes more affordable and easy to use, especially to commute with.  Electric bikes are already really common in Europe and are definitely gaining more popularity in North America.  It is really attractive to users as you can choose how much, or how little, energy you put into your bike ride. The best part about biktrix is that it doesn’t matter what age you are - you can take full advantage of the pedaling or riding using the electric motor.

  2. Athlete Era has created a suite of mobile learning apps that use augmented reality content, cloud computing, and gamification to help kids teach themselves basic sports skills.  It also helps teachers and volunteer coaches run more efficient practices. There are currently 2 apps developed - one for kids, and the other for instructors. They then can communicate via a central web portal.  It is a really great way to develop those physical literacy skills in kids while allowing instructors to really be able to help the kids learn and grow. By having comments and personalized feedback right in the app, it allows the kids to grow in their skills.  

Both of these local technologies could really improve your fitness goals. Plus you’re supporting local...can’t get much better than that!

Music apps

There are so many different music apps out there now that it’s hard to choose the right one.  No matter which one is your favorite, it is definitely the best way to help keep you motivated during those workouts.  There is Spotify. It can be a free service, but with limitations. There are only basic features you can access and it does have advertisements.  There is also a paid subscription where you have access to full streaming and can even download music. To keep you motivated, there are already created workout playlists.  Or even better, you can create your own playlist with your favorite workout music to keep you going! There’s also Rock My Run. Rock My Run provides workout music that can be sorted by the type of music you like to listen to or how many beats per minute you want to work out too.  The faster the beats per minute, the faster the tempo, which is an awesome way to get your motivation up and pumping to make the most out of your workout. There are also lots of other music apps out there. All you need to do is find the one that suits you best and get moving!
