Saskatchewan Technology Companies to Watch in 2022
Did you know that Saskatoon is the second fastest growing tech community in Canada, second only to Waterloo? I had the opportunity to speak to CTV Morning Live in Saskatoon about some of the exciting up-and-coming technology companies to watch in 2022.
Saskatchewan’s pioneering tech companies have had a great year with Vendasta Technologies raising $119M, 7shifts raising $21.5M, and Coconut Software raising $28M. Although raising funds is not always a sign of success, I used these metrics as well as insights from Innovation Saskatchewan, Co.Labs, Cultivator, and Startup TNT to make these predictions for Saskatchewan startup companies to watch in 2022:
If you want to check out the full interview, you can watch it via CTV’s platform:
1. Croptimistic Technology Inc.
Based in Naicam, Saskatchewan, Croptimistic is a company that has raised $5.2M to be put towards developing their SWAT (soil, water, and topography) mapping technology, which allow producers and farmers to apply variable-rate seed applications and fertilizers. Thanks to this company’s tech, farmers and producers can make well-informed decisions in terms of soil health and applications.
Prairie Robotics uses artificial intelligence technologies that are installed directly onto recycling collection trucks to create educational materials customizable to households. This rather new company, created by Sam Dietrich of Regina, has raised $690,000 and is sweeping the cleantech scene right now.
Based out of Rosetown, Soil Sense Inc. is a company that offers multiple agronomic services to farmers and producers, including precision technologies and data management, to make it easier for agriculture advisors to advise their producers. This company recently won $15,000 in Co.Lab’s Co.Launch Competition, and they're certainly ones to watch as they develop some cool tech coming from rural Saskatchewan.
4. StoreToDoor
StoreToDoor is a Saskatoon company providing same-day delivery services for small businesses. They won the Startup TNT Competition in 2021 and received $125,000 in investment as their prize. It will be exciting to watch these local players compete with major companies like Amazon and others in the delivery space.
This company has created a very straightforward and streamlined process of allowing businesses to hire immigrants and settle them in Canada. This process, which used to take more than forty hours of paperwork to complete, has been reduced to about three hours—thanks to Immigrate’s transparent and intuitive software.
These are some incredible companies to keep an eye on this year and beyond, but I know I’m only scratching the surface! We’re lucky to be living in such an innovative tech hub, filled with hundreds of other local companies led by entrepreneurs with that genuine Saskatchewan grit.
